Tip #3 Notice if your new therapist respects you.

Therapy doesn’t work unless you like your therapist. Respect is really important here. Is your new therapist answering phone calls during your session, seeming busy with other more important things? Or are they devoted to your needs? It takes time to find the right fit for a therapist. It is a personal, private, and intimate growth process and it is important to notice that they respect you and your time.

Tip #4 Your perfect therapist will ask questions rather than give advice.

Your therapist will be non-judgmental. However, they will be asking you questions to help you think about yourself in new ways. These questions help you better understand and digest your past, your present and future, and help you figure out your goals. If you therapist is telling you exactly what to do or giving you advice, “You should break up with your partner. It is clearly not working for you,” find and interview another therapist. Instead a great therapist will ask, “What do you like and dislike about your partner? How do you feel when she/he does that? How can you communicate your needs more effectively? Therapists help you come to your own conclusions and will support you no matter what you decide to do with your life.

I would love to be your therapist whether near or far!  Call or text today (860) 451-9364.
