Sessions generally take place in our private therapy office (located near Tony D’s Creamery and directly across from Casablanca’s Wicker Furniture on Main Street in Niantic, CT). In addition, we provide phone or secure video conferencing sessions.
How long are the counseling sessions?
As we enter into our therapeutic work together, we typically meet for 45-minutes per session. Furthermore, we suggest beginning with consistency, with weekly sessions, until therapeutic goals are met.
When it comes to marriage and family therapy, personal growth and inner resilience are most effective with structure, reliability, and consistency. We do best the work with clients when we meet consistently each week. We see clients by appointment, both daytime and evening hours. Clients also make the most progress when they commit to themselves.
How long does therapy take?
Traditionally, client’s attend one 45 minute session per week. Some clients may attend as often as three times per week when that structure is appropriate. So, some people attend for six to nine months, while others enjoy going to therapy for years. You’ll want to keep up your motivation as you develop an open mind, positive perspective, and healthy coping skills. To add, your old habits and behaviors will gradually and organically develop into positive habits. During this process, new neural pathways in your brain will form.
